Light Grapefruit Margarita Recipe

Light, refreshing, piquant, even (I have been dying to use that word!). Here is a cocktail for Friday night, Sunday brunch, Tuesday breakfast, etc. Whatever gets you through the pandemic.

We've been doing Friday night virtual cocktail hour with friends for a couple of weeks now, like many of you, so I thought I'd give you a recipe sure to please!

  • 1.5 - 2 oz. best quality tequila -- I've used a Patron silver
  • .5 oz. Couintreau or good quality triple sec
  • fresh squeezed ruby red grapefruit juice or a good bottled ruby red grapefruit juice (fresh is better, but messy)
  • salt for rimming the glass
  • grapefruit slices for garnish

First, squeeze the juice from 3 - 4 ruby red grapefruit into a small pitcher, which should give you enough for about (4) cocktails. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add the tequila and triple sec. Top off with the grapefruit juice. Shake, shake, shake. If you don't have a cocktail shaker, add the ingredients directly to your serving glass, with the ice in it, and pour back and forth between two glasses. Mixing is key.

Rub a grapefruit section on the rim of your serving glass and then dip that into a saucer with kosher salt (regular will do!). Fill the glass halfway with ice, strain the cocktail into it, garnish with a grapefruit slice and enjoy. If you are not using the shaker, rim a serving glass with salt and then just pour your drink in. It is SO refreshing!! Please don't forget the garnish, in these trying times it is more important than ever to treat yourself and the ones you love well. Pair this with a taco or two and you are living large. Taco recipe not included, stay tuned, stay safe, stay healthy.
